About the Opportunity

Currently, Silfab is seeking experienced and flexible Maintenance Electricians to join their collaborative team in Mississauga, ON.

In this role, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining production equipment, which includes electrical, hydraulic, mechanical and pneumatic systems, while working from wiring diagrams, engineering drawings and equipment specifications.

Working primarily on voltages up to 600V (AC/DC), you will:

·       Repair and replace electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic and electronic components such as motors, contractors, relays, timers, types of switches, PLCs, light curtains, motor controls, valves, etc.;

·

·       Run new power supply lines to new/relocated equipment according to IEE wiring regulations, Electrical Safety Code and company policy;

·       Wire new control panels according to supplied drawings and verbal instructions while adhering to Hydro Codes and other applicable standards and regulations;

·       Recognize and diagnose faults on electrical equipment or systems, which may involve complex interlocking, interrelated circuits, integrated systems and complex sequencing;

·       Install, examine, replace and repair electronic wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components;

·       Maintain production equipment to maximize operating performance and assist with maintaining electrical spare parts inventory levels;

·       Perform repairs on equipment to restore them to proper and safe work conditions;

·       Perform installation, set up, modification and relocation of equipment to accommodate or improve production requirements;

·       Read/write electrical and electronic schematics/diagrams, basic hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams;

·       Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance;

·       Make trade calculations for load requirements and select appropriate sizes/grades of components in accordance with current electrical code;

·       Ensure production schedule is not jeopardized due to machine break down, or unsafe operating conditions and inform Engineering and Maintenance Manager about changes in electric circuits and update original diagrams;

·       Always follow LOCK OUT procedure on unsafe machines/machines being serviced;

·       Adhere to work orders, preventive/predictive maintenance systems by filling in required forms; and

·       Organize workplace to comply with housekeeping requirements.

In order to be successful in this role, you must have a valid Provincial Industrial Electrician’s license (preferably inter-provincial), knowledge of applicable electrical codes and 3-5 years of experience employed as an Industrial Electrician, ideally within a production environment.

Able to read wiring diagrams, electrical/mechanical/pneumatic/hydraulic schematics and ladder/function block logic, you have working knowledge of industrial PCs and PLCs (Siemens Step 7, Beckhoff TwinCat, etc.) and electric circuitry consisting of contractors, relays, main voltage/control voltage, limit switches and proximity sensors, etc.

Hands-on experience applying hydra-electric, electro-pneumatic and electro-mechanical theories is a must as is the ability to work well with minimal supervision and take initiative.

A proven team player and strong communicator with excellent organizational skills, you will be a great fit for this role if you are able to:

·       Maintain an awareness of the big picture;

·       Understand and use programming devices for troubleshooting and modifying programs;

·       Perform basic wiring work, conduit bending, controls cabinet wiring and general installations;

·       Identify causes of problems while developing methods of correction;

·       Lift up to 40 lbs;

 Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop quality controls and Work Instructions in cooperation with the management team.
  • Monitor the variations in scraps products and raw materials (out of spec) that are rejected at the various steps of production flow. Make statistical evaluations and define corrective actions. Lead root cause/corrective action activities.
  • Suggest improvements of the quality controls and Work Instructions in order to reduce scraps and improve the performance of the finished product.
  • Reduce the production of scraps, and improve the capacity using in-depth analysis and improvement of the process.
  • Support and train continually the Quality Technicians, Lead Hands and Operators on WI’s, Quality and Process issues.
  • Create statistical analysis and reports on the quality of raw materials and finished product.
  • Monitor performance and accordingly suggest improvements to the Leadership Team on the production recipes for the various steps of the process. Implement approved improvements.
  • Prepare PPAP submissions and approvals (Customers and Suppliers).
  • Perform root-cause analysis and apply corrective/preventive actions.
  • Champion Control Plans, PFMEAs, and related inspection & testing activities.
  • Maintain ongoing defect prevention activities through FMEA reviews.
  • Involvement in design reviews internally and externally.
  • Perform process, system, and dimensional audits.
  • Perform dimensional layouts and MSA studies for new and existing programs.
  • Champion new product launches for all quality related documentations.
  • Prepare shop-floor work instructions.
  • Implement SPC (as required). Liaise with suppliers and customers when required, going to customer sites as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Leadership Team produce and maintain all documentation required for the Quality manual in respecting the ISO standards.

  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience as Quality Engineer in a high-volume, high-tech manufacturing environment is required.
  • Module manufacturing experience is preferred, however not required.

Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated excellent understanding of problem solving techniques including 8D, 5Why’s, and Fishbone
  • proficient with computers, Microsoft Office, power pack, advanced excel, mini tab and Statistical tools
  • Certified Quality Engineer accreditation is highly preferred

    • Work with the Maintenance Technician to resolve maintenance problems, following all procedures 
    • Meet with the Lead Hands and Production Supervisor of the previous and subsequent shifts, transferring information about problems and solutions implemented during their shift  
    • Inform the Production Manager about issues regarding production, quality, process and/or organization of personnel or resources immediately upon observation 
    • Propose improvements to all procedures and processes to improve yield and uptime of production processes and all relevant equipment 
    • Maintain the ability to perform all tasks associated with the production of the product, and substitute for any operation staff in any area during breaks and/or absences with the shift 
    • Work overtime as required  
    • Minimize the risk of accidents and quality issues 
    • Maximize the technical knowledge and engagement of the operations staff 
    • Maximize the uptime of the equipment and the traceability and quality of the finished product  
    • Achieve the production goals and improvements outlined by the Production Manager

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Perform quality controls following the Work Instructions (WI’s) on raw materials, semi-finished, and finished products. 
    • Monitor the variations in scraps products and raw materials (out of spec) that are rejected at the various steps of production flow. Make statistical evaluations and define corrective actions in collaboration with Management. 
    • Suggest improvements of the WI’s in order to reduce scraps and improve the performance of the finished product. 
    • Improve the capacity for in-depth analysis and improvement of the process. 
    • Continually support the Production staff on WI’s, quality and process issues in cooperation with Management. 
    • Create statistical analysis and reports on the quality of raw materials and finished product as required.   
    • Utilize and maintain the supplied instruments of measurement according to WI and safety standards. 
    • Monitor and suggest improvements to Management on the production recipes for the various steps of the process. 
    • Monitor and audit operations, suggesting improvements to the tools of quality control used in the production line 
    • Manage, maintain, and calibrate the instruments of measurement in the production line and in the QA room.  
    • Produce, in collaboration with the certified laboratories, “Master Modules” as required.  
    • Suggest measures that will improve the traceability of the finished product. 
    • In collaboration Management, maintain all documentation required for the Quality manual in respecting the ISO standards. 
    • Act as a driving force for continual improvement. 
    • Other duties and tasks as assigned to support the Quality Manager.

     Qualifications: 

    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, yet knows when to ask for help.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Ensure all operations staff are following and executing all operations and equipment safely

    • Perform quality control as required by the work instructions and as instructed by the production and quality leaders and staff

    • Work with the Maintenance Technician to resolve maintenance problems, following all procedures 
    • Meet with the Lead Hands and Production Supervisor of the previous and subsequent shifts, transferring information about problems and solutions implemented during their shift  
    • Inform the Production Manager about issues regarding production, quality, process and/or organization of personnel or resources immediately upon observation 
    • Propose improvements to all procedures and processes to improve yield and uptime of production processes and all relevant equipment 
    • Maintain the ability to perform all tasks associated with the production of the product, and substitute for any operation staff in any area during breaks and/or absences with the shift 
    • Work overtime as required  
    • Minimize the risk of accidents and quality issues 
    • Maximize the technical knowledge and engagement of the operations staff 
    • Maximize the uptime of the equipment and the traceability and quality of the finished product  
    • Achieve the production goals and improvements outlined by the Production Manager
