Defining American-Made: Silfab Solar’s Role in U.S. Manufacturing

June 26, 2025\Burlington, Washington, USA

In our modern interconnected society, manufactured products often use parts made all over the world. Solar panels are no different, with many components typically coming from overseas. But that’s all starting to change.

Thanks to smart federal policy and incentives, manufacturing facilities across the United States provide companies like Silfab Solar with more American made components than ever before.

Using components made in the United States means Silfab Solar is supporting American manufacturing and fostering job growth across the country. We’re returning benefits to local communities and setting America up for a bright solar future. And we’re just getting started, with plans to increase the total percentage of American made components that go into every solar panel.

Why American solar manufacturing is growing

Between Spring of 2024 and Spring of 2025, American solar manufacturing capacity nearly doubled, from 26.6 gigawatts (GW) to 51 GW, according to a report from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). The report also reveals there are now solar or energy storage manufacturing facilities in 41 states.

There are several reasons for this rapid growth, but one big driver has been smart government policy.

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 provided direct incentives to companies that manufacture solar energy components, among other clean energy technologies. The law also extended tax credits for homeowners and businesses that pay to install solar panels which created an increase in installations and an increase in new small businesses that install solar systems.

These incentives have been highly successful, resulting in the creation of thousands of highly skilled manufacturing and installation jobs nationwide. To keep driving more American job growth, we advocate for stable government policies that allow domestic manufacturing to thrive.

How Silfab Solar directly supports job growth in America

Silfab Solar operates state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Washington and South Carolina, where we manufacture industry-leading, tier-one solar panels. Fort Mill, SC, also houses our advanced solar cell manufacturing facility, a key component in creating a fully American-made solar product rooted in precision, innovation and energy independence. Silfab has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to manufacture our own cells in the US, but our support for American businesses goes much further. We buy components for our solar panels from companies in four states: Georgia, New Hampshire, Texas and Wisconsin, with plans to purchase more US-made material as companies reshore manufacturing.

Choosing top quality components from domestic suppliers goes a long way to ensuring we maintain our reputation for excellence, exemplified by the fact that our solar panels consistently exceed third-party testing standards for superior performance, durability and long-term reliability.

Working with trusted partners in the United States helps Silfab Solar maintain high quality standards. We are committed to sourcing materials and components from the best suppliers and are always looking for new ways to support domestic businesses. For example, Silfab Solar established a relationship with SOLARCYCLE, sending manufacturing waste to be recycled. Some of those materials will be returned to the solar value chain and become new ingredients for module manufacturing.

How potential changes to current laws could halt growth

Proposed language in the 2025 budget bill (aka the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”) will end solar tax credits much sooner than under current law. Both the House of Representatives and the Senate have released versions of the bill, and the changes they propose would have widespread negative consequences.

Specifically, the current versions of the bill from the House and Senate would either eliminate or greatly reduce the duration and value of the Section 25D and Section 48E solar tax credits. This would result in the cancellation of contracts and projects resulting in loss of business, closure of companies, tens of thousands of job losses, more expensive electricity, and less reliability on the grid.

The bills have not yet been finalized, and there is still time to advocate for more sensible policy. Silfab Solar has been working hard in collaboration with industry associations like SEIA and SEMA to stand up for US-made solar products, meeting directly with politicians in Washington DC and states where we have manufacturing facilities.

Individuals who want to support the US solar industry can contact their Senators and Representatives by calling their offices, or reaching out through the Solar Powers America website. Tell your elected officials how important it is to keep the solar manufacturing and installation industry alive.

How everyone can benefit from American-made solar

The growth of the solar manufacturing industry in America is a great success story, and making solar panels in America has brought jobs, economic growth, and supply chain stability.

If we want to keep the momentum going, we need to maintain sensible government policy that provides certainty to companies that build solar panels and solar components in the United States. Without the incentives passed as part of the Inflation Reduction Act, we would not have the growing manufacturing base offering good-paying solar jobs to Americans that we have today.

American made solar means jobs for workers, business for companies, economic growth for our communities, and a better electric grid powered by clean energy. Everyone can help support the companies bringing these benefits to America. Silfab Solar is doing its part.
